Inspired by this week’s ‘Cosy Issue‘ of Stylist Magazine, I thought I’d wrap up and get comfy for a winter wishlist as we head towards the end of the year. Whether you’re getting cosy indoors or outside, I have looked for thoughtful sustainable options rather than cheap impulse purchases that are bad for the planet and your soul.
1) Nikita long line cardigan from People Tree
Wherever you want to get cosy, a big long cardie with huge pockets is definitely a must. They’re good for lounging around at home, wrapping up at the office or heading out for brunch with friends, and in black it’ll go with everything so you can look good as well as feel good. The Nikita cardigan from People Tree fits the bill perfectly, and it’s made by Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills – a pioneer in organic garment manufacturing in India, seeking to combine high quality tailoring with a fair deal for farmers and workers, whilst supporting local environmental and social projects.
2) Birdsong x Amy Isles Freeman Sweatshirt
This cosy pink embroidered organic cotton sweatshirt is a collaboration between artist Amy Isles Freeman and ethical London brand Birdsong. This piece features an original Amy Isles Freeman motif (created exclusively for Birdsong) called ‘Lady Love’, which is machine embroidered onto ethically made 100% organic combed cotton tees and sweatshirts by Mona and her community sewing school Bow Sewing Centre in Tower Hamlets. “Mona is a real fixture of the community and money from these t-shirts goes to her sewing lessons for women from low income backgrounds, and people with disabilities. ”
3) Quinn bra by Lara Intimates
Living in a flat with single glazing, I often forget that being cosy doesn’t need to involve wearing lots of layers. For some folk, their home is so toasty that their Saturday night is more kalsarikännit than hygge. If this is you, or you just want to put some good undies beneath that cosy jumper, head over to Lara Intimates. If the amazing Wren bra is anything to go by, the new Quinn style (available in black and white, and made in East London) will be incredibly comfortable. For your lovely bum, they make their briefs in classic, high waist and hipster, plus a thong style too.
4) Bibico fair isle mohair snood
Whether you’re curled up at home or venturing out into the cold, a soft scarf is always good to keep the drafts away. This chunky knit fair isle snood is handmade from soft mohair and comes in three colourways: navy & white, blue, and navy & mustard.
5) Pink long-sleeved dress by Love ur Look
Want to stay glamorous and keep warm? Check out this lovely wool long-sleeved dress from Love ur Look. I love this brand not just for their retro styling, but also for the fact their designs are made to high ethical standards entirely from discarded materials, such as surplus stock or production off cuts. This great dress also comes in green, but grab one quick as they’re selling out fast!
