A wise woman once told me that leopard print was a neutral. I stupidly refused to believe this for years, but I have now realised that she was right. You might have to think carefully before wearing it with other prints, but you can use it in an outfit in just the same was as you would black, white or brown. Although it’s easy to find it in places where pin-up or retro clothing is sold, recent years have seen quite a lot of it back on the high street so I thought it was time for a leopard Lust List.
1) ASOS leopard print ankle socks
I have been enjoying the recent trend for ankle socks, as I hate the feeling of bare feet on the inside of my shoes in summer, but I’ve never considered leopard socks… until now! If you aren’t sure if you can pull off a full-on leopard outfit but fancy trying a splash of animal print in your outfit, these cute socks are definitely for you.
2) Leopard print ‘Troublemaker’ swing dress
This gorgeous dress from Vixen by Micheline Pitt is most definitely top of my wish list at the moment. Comfy enough to be casual but stylist enough to be formal, you could dress this beauty up or down. It’s worn with a petticoat in this photo, but I reckon you could style it in a less pin-up-y way if you so desired (Doc Martens, anyone?).
3) Charlotte Mills ‘Elizabeth’ block heels in pink
I discovered Charlotte Mills’ gorgeous shoes via a sponsored post on Instagram and the Elizabeth in pink leopard is probably my favourite pair from the new More Sugar collection. There was a trend a few years ago for colourful neon versions of leopard print (perhaps not a neutral in this format!), but I’m also a big fan of the recent prevalence of pink varieties. And who doesn’t love those shiny block heels?
4) River Island oversized leopard print clutch
Searching the River Island site for ‘leopard’ returns some pretty amazing results at the moment, especially in the accessories section. Sunglasses, skirts, dresses, swimwear… this huge leather leopard print clutch really grabbed my attention though. I dunno what I’d put in it, but I’d sure I’d think of something.
5) Collectif ‘Dolores’ top in feral
You can always count on Collectif to have a bit of leopard on sale in any given season, and SS17 is no different. Their classic Dolores top looks great in a big bold leopard print that they call ‘feral’ and I bought it recently so can confirm that it looks just as fantastic in person. The print’s so big though that it’s definitely not one for shrinking violets!
