Every year since 2014, I have been lucky enough to attend the end of year show organised by graduating students of the BA (Hons) Fashion Contour course. This year’s contour cohort worked together to arrange a showcase of their final collections at LCF’s John Prince’s Street site in central London on Friday 16th June.
The evening was a great success and was well attended by industry guests, who came to discuss opportunities with the new graduates. Feedback comments received from the industry guests were extremely positive.
“They spoke so passionately about their work.”
“Incredible work – so creative!”
“I really enjoyed seeing the diversity of design shown, from lingerie to lounge-wear to swimwear to girls underwear and nightwear.”
My favourites included dreamy floral embellished sheer garments from Georgie Rouse (see top image), Dina Ahmeti‘s super-cute super-soft tween underwear collection, and Ruth Schechner‘s stunning lingerie collection (pictured below) which perfectly expressed “the delicate balance between feminine strength and the vulnerability of flesh” through her use of sheer fabrics, cutouts and spiked embellishments. I was, however, a bit disappointed that Samuel Lucas didn’t attend the event as I would have loved a closer look at his beautiful men’s intimate apparel collection.
I chatted to a few of the students to find out their future plans, and hopefully those who had yet to secure a job were invited for interviews by some of the industry guests in attendance. Good luck to all of this year’s graduates… I look forward to seeing more of your work in the years to come.
