June Lust List: Unusual lipstick

Inspired by Talonted Lex and her ‘Unwearable‘ series of make up posts, I’ve been taking a closer look at make up colours I wouldn’t usually consider. To be honest, a lot of my lipstick choices here are a bit ‘safe’ compared to some of the shades that Lex has tried, but I might try something bolder (at least from the cheaper ranges!) and take her advice: “You don’t even need to go out of the house, just wear it for you at first.”

1) NYX Velvet Matte Lipstick in ‘Disorderly’
This blue-ish purple shade is quite a bold statement and might seem like one for the very brave. I think it’s all about context though. It’d take a strong character to pull this off during the daytime in a quiet suburb, but even the shyest of wallflowers could probably wear it on a night out in a big city. Hence the name, I guess.

2) SEVENTEEN Stay Pout Lipstick in ‘Make an Entrance’
This isn’t as over the top as some of the other shades I’ve chosen, but is more of an orange-y red than I would usually consider. However, I think every lipstick wearer needs to venture our of their red comfort zone once in a while, so I think I’m going to hunt down a tester of this. It’s currently sold out online, so is clearly very popular!

3) Barry M Matte Lip Paint in ‘Palest Lavender’
These Barry M lipsticks are super affordable and the palest lavender shade is definitely not one I would have considered trying until recently. I think if I was wearing a print that had this colour in, or matching accessories, it would look fantastic.

4) Illamasqua Antimatter Lipstick in ‘Eclipse’
The truly inspiring Illamasqua has lipstick in the boldest of shades, but surely none are as ‘unwearable’ as this rather ridiculous matte white. It seems to be good for creating effects and interesting lip art but, as the image above illustrates, some people might actually be able to get away with wearing it as is.

5) Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in ‘Plan 9’
Plan 9 is just SO GREEN. Greener than I ever thought I’d like in a lipstick that isn’t part of a fancy dress costume (although Poison Ivy is definitely on my ‘To Do’ list of fancy dress costumes!). Check out the video tutorial below for a fantastic and surprisingly easy metallic green lip look, using Kat Von D products.
