Lust List: March

Cock and Bull MenswearThis month’s Lust List is a quick end-of-the-month post, but there’s nothing half arsed (pun intended) about the featured brands. I’ve come up with a list of underwear companies who care about their fit, fabrics, supply chain and their customers. If you want to spend a bit more to get something that will feel good and last well, these guys are definitely worth a look.

1) Cock & Bull Menswear
Cock & Bull‘s range of organic boxer briefs are made from super soft certified organic cotton fabric. Available in 5 colours, they are produced entirely in the UK and dyed and printed with low impact dyes and pigments.

2) Ayten Gasson
Luxury lingerie label Ayten Gasson is well known for its beautiful collections and firm commitment in supporting the UK fashion industry. Every piece from each collection is proudly designed and made in the UK. The brand’s designer Ayten Roberts supports as many UK companies as possible, from lace mills to printers, and she also regularly uses upcycled vintage Nottingham lace, Peace Silk and Organic Silk within her collections as a testament to her ethical and sustainable approach to production. Every lingerie item is made in small production units in Nottingham and Wales, or in Ayten’s Brighton based studio.

3) Drake & Hutch
Describing themselves as an artisan label, Drake & Hutch find the finest raw materials for use in their underwear which is designed in Manchester (in collaboration with Jermyn Street tailors) and handmade in Europe. Every supplier they work with “operates with integrity and shares our belief in creating clothing of unrivalled character and quality drawing upon generations of expertise”. In their Twitter bio, they sum this up by saying “we believe in excellence through transparency in production”

4) Buttress and Snatch
All the lingerie and swimwear from Buttress and Snatch is custom made to order in Hackney, London. Their prices may look higher than you’re used to, but that’s because they don’t hold stock; cutting out and making your underthings especially for you. In addition, they buy all their materials from UK suppliers and are strong supporters of UK manufacturing. Their ethos is: “It’s miserable for anyone to sew hundreds of the same seams everyday for no thanks and bad pay so we don’t do it that way. There’s more to life than margins.”

5) she and reverie
Describing themselves as “a whimsical lifestyle loungewear brand for women who see the world through rose-colored glasses”, she and reverie strive to “bring importance to the clothes we make by rejecting fast fashion and reviving the idea of non-disposable apparel. Our lush items are all manufactured in New York City apparel factories, crafted by people who are paid adequate wages and work in safe environments.”
