I’ve got a few vintage-inspired pieces from Tara Starlet in my wardrobe and have always loved their super cute take on retro styles. Taking inspiration from the 40s, 50s and 60s, designer Tara Scott mixes classic styles with quirky prints and a beautiful colour palette to produce her eye catching collections, and now she’s gone one step further by extending her size range. Seeing as I’m now at the top of their previous size range – I’m a bit of an inbetweenie – it’s great to see that they’re one of a few brands who have opted to extend the sizing on their standard range of designs rather than produce a separate ‘plus size’ range.
Of course, if you start selling larger sizes, you need to show those customers how the clothes might look on them. Much as I adore their clothing, the usual size 8 models don’t give me much of an idea how things might fit my UK size 14/16 and rather squishy body. Thankfully the brand realised this and recruited the utterly wonderful Felicity Hayward to be the face of their new Starlet Curvy range. She is, in my opinion, the perfect choice for. With her pin up glamour and personality oozing from every shot, Felicity is the ideal Tara Starlet girl.
Some of the SS16 styles are available for pre-order now and it looks like they’re really popular already, with a few things sold out in the larger sizes already. I’m currently trying to work out whether I could carry off the orange version of the Fifties Frock, or whether I should stick with the safe option of the blue gingham Dottie instead. Or perhaps I should hold out for some of the other gorgeous items that popped up on the Tara Starlet Instagram feed when the photo shoot was taking place with Felicity? Maybe the gorgeous pink capri pants with a toucan print, a pale blue version of the 40s style keyhole top that I used to own, something in a cactus print or this fab skirt that Felicity shared on her own Instagram? I can think of a few women I know who’d totally rock the playsuit (pictured left) and I’m glad to see that the cute gingham daisy fabrics have cropped up in yummy pastel shades.
This collection is like being on holiday in Miami, or putting all the sprinkles on a giant ice cream dessert, and it’s certainly got me excited for spring. Which items do you want to get your hands on?
