The letter O was another tricky one in my A-to-Z of Accessories, and it took me a while to think of something appropriate. After much rummaging around on fashion retailers’ websites – all in the name of research! – I decided on obi. Named after the types of sash used in traditional Japanese dress, these versatile buckle-less wrap belts have become popular with fashion retailers in recent years. This is one type of belt where one does pretty much fit all… well, depending on what size of bow you like to tie.
This type of belt is sadly not available from many high street retailers this season – even American Apparel’s The Sash is on its way out – but there are still a few options on the internet: leather obi belts are available from ASOS (see photo) and Mango, faux leather can be found at Modcloth, cotton from Not on the High Street, and a whole host of different types of handmade obi are available on Etsy. An obi is a great way to cinch in an outfit, draw attention to your waist or add a contrasting colour, without the restriction of a standard wide waist belt.
We’re up to the letter P next and I’m currently trying to decide between pin (i.e. lapel/tie/brooch) and pocket square. If you have a preference, or another suggestion, please let me know in the comments. Thanks!
