Review: Joanna’s Wardrobe Cherry Girdle

After I wrote about Joanna’s Wardrobe last week, they emailed to offer me an item from their own range to review – the super cute Cherry roll-on girdle that I’d already added to my Joanna’s Wardrobe wishlist! For those of you unfamiliar with vintage lingerie terminology, a ‘roll-on’ girdle is basically a very deep suspender belt with no fastenings. So you just roll or pull it over your hips, depending on how tight you like them to be. The more snug the fit, the more likely you will be to have to wiggle into it but you will get more shaping from the fabric. I was very much looking forward to trying out this extremely pretty girdle, and I didn’t have to wait long as it turned up very quickly.

The fabric is smooth and soft, with a reinforced tummy panel and a bold bright cherry print. There are six white suspender straps with metal clasps and, unlike most other girdles I have tried, these are adjustable (albeit by a very small amount). As the photos on the Joanna’s Wardrobe site have the girdle styled with a red bra and briefs, I decided to team mine with my Freya Deco ‘firecracker’ set (see left) to get a similar effect. I didn’t have time to do my hair and make up before taking the photo, which is why I’ve cropped my head out, but it did manage to make me feel like a 1950s cheesecake pin up all the same. If I ever manage to sort out another lingerie photoshoot, this is definitely going to be part of one of the outfits I take with me.

The large size was easy to pull up over my UK size 14/16 bottom, and it stayed in place all day despite plenty of moving about. If I’d wanted to make the most of the control fabric a medium might have sucked me in a bit more, but even this size smoothed out the bulges from my knickers and made my pencil skirt easier to pull up which was very much appreciated. I paired it with some nude stockings and made sure that they were seam-free so that I had one less thing to worry about. You see, the brilliant thing about roll-on girdles is that going to the loo is as easy as it is when you’re wearing tights. As long as you don’t have any seams to straighten, you can simply pull the whole thing down and back up again, with minimal stockings adjustment required. Gorgeous and practical, plus it’s a bargain at £34. They have other colours too, so check out the other pull on girdles in the Joanna’s Wardrobe range if, for some strange reason, you don’t like cherries.

DISCLOSURE: I was sent a ‘Cherry’ roll-on girdle, free to review by Joanna’s Wardrobe.
