The A-to-Z of Accessories: Illamasqua

The letter I was another tricky one in my A-to-Z of Accessories, so I have had to resort to a brand name once more. But what a brand this is! I first discovered Illamasqua via Arched Eyebrow and, although I rarely wear lipstick myself, I was rather drawn to the deep shade worn by Bethany. The name – Growl – was rather tantalising too. And then there was Sali Hughes’ description of their Fragile nail polish: “However dull my week is, I still smile every time I look down at my Illamasqua blue speckled nails that make my fingertips look like stolen blackbird eggs.” Clearly this was an unusual and creative brand that I needed to know more about.

Hailed as the most significant make-up launch in over twenty years, independent, British make-up brand Illamasqua brings truly professional make-up to the High street for the first time. This make-up brand, that empowers people to express their individuality, has been making a scene in London since its launch in November 2008. The product of a heady mix of influences; from its roots in the dark and illicit 1920s Berlin club scene, to a rich heritage in the manufacture of make-up for film and theatre, Illamasqua takes it’s inspiration from members of the ‘alternative scenes’ for whom self-expression is paramount. Champions of creativity and fighting against injustice wherever we go, our highly-pigmented, long lasting products provide consumers and make-up artists alike with the products and inspiration to ensure they can express themselves, whoever they are and whatever look they want to achieve.

Bold colours in products that last? No wonder make-up artists love them! They have an online shop and have a selection of products available via ASOS but, if you’re not a fan of buying cosmetics online and would rather try before you buy, Illamasqua have three shops of their own plus their make-up counters can be found in Selfridges and Debenhams stores across the UK. Once payday arrives, I might risk popping into their flagship store to see what tempting treats I can find. If you’re already a fan of Illamasqua, please give me some product recommendations!

  1. If you’re into nail polish theirs are very good quality and insanely chip resistant. This is coming from someone who could chip her nails by standing stock still in an empty room!
The precision ink eye liners stay put really well too.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation! I’m definitely going to check out their nail polish colours now.
