Last week I attended a preview of Curvy Kate’s A/W 2013 collection. Curvy Kate was launched in 2009 and specialise in D-K cup bras (28-44 back size), but are unusual in that most of their bras are available in the full size range. They have also recently launched a swimwear range. This is great news for people who are on the edges of the usual size ranges. I’m a 28 back and I’m frequently disappointed when other bras only offer that size in round a fifth of their range.
I must admit, that before attending I had previously tried Curvy Kate’s bras only to find that they didn’t suit my breast shape. What I didn’t know is that the brand have listened to customer feedback and have altered many of their styles as well as introducing many new styles for A/W. Curvy Kate is remaining colourful and bright but the new collection is more mature with a definite colour palette. Curvy Kate’s designer, Charlotte, talked us through the A/W 2013 collection aided by customers who had been selected to be models through their “Star in a Bra” campaign. Highlights for me were:
Princess (28-40 D-K and 42-44 D-G)
This is Curvy Kate’s best seller and has been redesigned for A/W 13. It has a soft raised polka dot and floral embroidery with a ribbon slot. As well as being available in its continuity colours of white, black and nude, it will be available in Scarlet from next month.
Romance (28-40 D-K)
This is a new bra and should be hitting the shops this month! It features a 3 part cup construction and side support to bring your boobs forward and up. It’s both a great everyday bra and elegant too.
Starlet (28-30 D-J, 32 D-HH, 34 D-H, 36 D-GG, 38 D-G)
This bra is a rare find indeed, in that it’s a moulded t-shirt bra that is a available above a G cup! From September it will be available in Petrol as well as its continuity colour of black.
Daily boost (28-40 D-K)
This bra is another rare find in that it’s a moulded plunge up to a K! Its had a complete facelift with a completely new pattern being used. I was looking for something to replace my Freya Deco as they don’t carry my new size and Daily Boost is the perfect replacement. It’s the first bra I’ve ever worn that makes my boobs feels weightless! No pressure or pinching! From August it will be available in Mocha as well as its continuity colours of black, nude and white.
My final highlight was something I’ve been searching for for years: A babydoll! Lola is based on the Daily Boost pattern and features cut out embroidery and a satin hem. This is a great new style from Curvy Kate and the super sneak preview of SS14 that Charlotte also gave us suggests that this won’t be the last babydoll they make. Other innovations for SS14 include Curvy Kate’s first strapless bra and the first G cup plus longline bra I’ve ever seen!
This post was written by a RWL Guest Blogger – I was invited to a Curvy Kate blogger event and sadly couldn’t make it but, thankfully, fellow bra aficionado Sarah Dorman agreed to go along in my place and report back for Rarely Wears Lipstick.
