Not that long ago, no one could have predicted that there would be a new category of fashion accessory that would be carried with us on a daily basis. But now that we all own a mobile phone, tablet and/or laptop there is a growing market for cases, covers and carriers. Something to protect our beloved gadgets, or simply to make them stand out from the crowd. The market for novelty smartphone cases is vast. You can have a retro phone cover that looks like a casette tape, Lego, the Nintendo Gameboy, or a vintage camera. Perhaps a cheeky animal cover, some OTT bling, or some faux fur is more your style? Or something made from classic materials like leather or silicone? For the crafty folk out there, why not knit something or go for a DIY case for your iPhone that you can cross stitch with your own design? And for the photographers, perhaps a case with your favourite photo printed onto it?
It’s not just phones that are getting this special treatment though. You can get beautiful wooden cases for your iPad, leather hardback books or faux manilla envelopes to encase your laptop, and even an official Moleskine Kindle cover. Osprey produce their polished croc leather iPad case and stand in some gorgeous colours, and Tusting make a beautiful range of leather cases to take care of your modern toys. If you’re fond of a classic look but leather’s not your thing, EsplanadeLondon sell hand made Harris Tweed gadget covers on Etsy, and Elvis and Kresse have fantastic laptop cases made from decommissioned fire hose and recycled coffee sacks.
To be honest, there are so many out there that it’s going to take ages for me to find the best, so I think I’m going to throw this one over to you. What are the best gadget covers that you’ve seen?
