Three great brands for vintage style shapewear

I know that many women swear by their Spanx, but I’m really not keen on undergarments that make me look like I’ve been squeezed into a sausage skin. I like my lingerie to look good before and after I put my clothes on, as well as while I’m fully clothed. Shapewear got so dull once women stopped needing suspender straps, so hooray for retro styles that need to be worn with stockings! Here are a few suggestions for sturdy foundation garments that smooth out those bulges whilst also looking utterly fabulous.

Kiss Me Deadly
The absolute best name for glamorous shapewear, Kiss Me Deadly sell longline girdles, panty girdles, ‘roll on’ girdles, waist cinchers, corsets and a corselette that doubles as outerwear for the daring. Their best selling Vargas longline girdle comes in many different colours including hot pink (see photo above), paradise print (which comes with fabric paints so you can choose your own colours!) and classic black. “The shaping power comes from its double layer for tummy control and waist reinforcement elastication, and it has an unusual high cut at the rear to help with day to day activities” – they really have thought of everything!

What Katie Did 'Glamour' girdleWhat Katie Did
I have What Katie Did’ classic Glamour girdle, which is easy to pull on and gives a wonderfully smooth line under clothes. If you need something that doesn’t just hold in your hips and tummy, the Glamour corselette goes all the way up. The review from Venus_Bound says it all really: “I have three corselettes from WKD and they are all fabulous! I have the Glamour in peach and it is my absolute favourite due to its very vintage look, beautiful satin panels and super strong lump and bump smoothing powers. I’m always recommending corselettes to my friends instead of spanx or the like, as WKD underwear is so beautiful and glamorous, you almost don’t want to put a dress on over it!”

Gossard Retrolution
The website asks, “do you hanker after the classic styling of the past, but with the very latest scultping fabrics and shaping technology?” Er, yes please! The waist cincher – probably so called because customers who know nothing about vintage lingerie might be slightly put off by the phrase panty girdle – looks utterly gorgeous in the blush colour and it was also given a glowing review by Retro Chick. That is on my wish list, along with the gorgeous longline plunge bra. A glorious combination of old and new.
