I first discovered Dollydagger in 2007 when a link to their site appeared in the Popbitch email alongside the line “cool clothes for rock’n’roll chicks”. I bought a Tara Starlet top and a red polka dot scarf from them (you could see the scarf in my Twitter profile pic back in 2009), and would spend hours browsing their site creating a wish list for the next time I got paid. The clothing they sold was quirky with more than a hint of rockabilly, and it was the first online shop I found that sold vintage inspired frocks alongside robot necklaces and rock chick leggings. As well as links to garment types, you can browse by style – e.g. kawaii cutie, disco dolly, sailor girl – colour or pattern, which is great when you can’t get enough polka dots in your life!
Dollydagger has grown since then but it still offers an eclectic mix clothing and accessories – from 40s and 50s inspired vintage inspired dresses, glam skinny jeans, rubber shoes and gorgeous designer jewellery that you won’t find anywhere else. It turns out that the online store had already been running for a couple of years when I first discovered it:
Founded in 2005 by Emma Ayres. The Dollydagger label grew out of a personal desire for well-made clothing and accessories with a twist, for all women irrespective of age and price tag. Dollydagger began life as an online concept store, stocking an eclectic mix of designers alongside well-known brands and their own Dollydagger label.
In 2010 Dollydagger opened their first bricks and mortar boutique in the heart of Brighton’s Lanes. Inside you’ll find a treasure trove of beautiful vintage style dresses and accessories perfect for your inner starlet.
Dollydagger continue to stock a fantastic selection of my favourite brands – including Miss L Fire, Melissa, Collectif, Bettie Page, Irregular Choice and Classic Hardware – plus their own Boutique collection which is manufactured and hand finished in Brighton. If I want to head to the seaside, Brighton is always my first choice so I’ll have to make sure I pay their boutique a visit next time I’m there. In the meantime, I shall continue to browse online and keep adding to that wishlist!
DISCLOSURE: The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that I now have an affiliate link for Dollydagger in my sidebar. As with all my banners, they are for brands and retailers I love and would personally recommend. I will receive a tiny little bit of money if you click through from this site and buy something, so please bear this in mind next time you have an urge to splurge on a pretty frock. Thanks!
