Review: Pleasure State from Madame Liberty

Recently, I was emailed by the owner of Madame Liberty, a lovely little company who’ve been selling lingerie and sex toys online for about six months. They stock Pleasure State lingerie – an Australian brand which isn’t very well known in the UK yet – and Alison very kindly offered me a set to review for Rarely Wears Lipstick. Never one to turn down an offer of free underwear, I jumped at the chance! A quick rummage around their rather pretty site showed they stock a handful of items from three Pleasure State ranges – Couture, VIP and White Label – and the descriptions told me that Pleasure State VIP is “exquisite lingerie designed specifically for the woman with significantly more”. More than what? More than a D cup apparently, as VIP is, rather pleasingly, available in DD to G. I chose the rather pretty Swan Lake balconette bra and coordinating Swan Lake midi brief. They arrived quickly, carefully wrapped in tissue paper, and discreetly packaged. This is great because, even though lingerie might not be quite as risque as many of the other items they sell, not everyone wants their postie to know where they get their undies from!

The Swan Lake set is made from beautiful off-white stretch lace, edged with pretty ruffled elastic and finished off with a contrasting bow made from stitched grosgrain ribbon. The bra cups are softly lined but not excessively padded, giving a nice smooth shape without extra bulk, and the knickers have a flattering slightly fuller cut. As I’ve never tried this brand before, I had to hope that the size which most often fits me in high street stores would be right in Pleasure State, and it turned out I was right. The 34DD fitted securely around the back, and the cups were a perfect fit. The XL briefs didn’t dig in to my size 14/16 hips either, which was a relief as matching sets often let me down in this area. The set was very comfortable to wear all day, but I still wouldn’t label it everyday underwear as the black bow on the bra may be visible through fine pale coloured fabrics, and the bow on the panties will definitely stick out through any bodycon skirts. The tiny ruffles on the bra straps don’t sit well with heavy shoulder bags either, so it’s just as well my handbag stays in my hand! Despite these little niggles, this beautiful comfortable set still gets my recommendation.

Madame Liberty also sell lots of the most stylish brands of sex toys – LELO, JimmyJane and Tenga – so it might be a good place to spoil yourself this Christmas. After all, everyone needs a little bit of ‘me time’, right? I’ll definitely be having a bit more of a rummage around on their website, and I really do hope that they start to stock more lines from the Pleasure State lingerie range soon.

DISCLOSURE: I was sent a Pleasure State VIP Swan Lake bra and briefs free to review by Madame Liberty.
