The A-to-Z of Sex Toys: Fetish

With the help of the lovely ladies at Lovehoney, I have begun to discover that there is a sex toy for every bit of fun you can think of, and a whole load more that you can’t. Each week I shall look at a different category of sex toys but, like my last A-to-Z, they won’t always be quite what you think. As you might imagine, all links are NSFW!

What’s your fetish? Don’t worry, it’s not all about whips and chains as Rihanna might suggest, although many people do have a fetish for pain and/or restraint. If you like something enough, then that could be a fetish. For example, if you get off on the mere idea of your partner wearing stockings and suspenders during sex, then you probably have a bit of a fetish for stockings. It’s nothing to be ashamed of though. Just using this particular f-word doesn’t suddenly make something super seedy. You may remember that I touched on a few ways to try something alternative with sensation play at the start of my A-to-Z, so I think this post should be all about classic ideas of fetish kit instead. Before we get to what what we can play with though, let’s start with something to wear.

Thanks to media representations, many people think about a latex clad dominatrix whenever BDSM is mentioned. What you probably don’t know is that latex clothing is far more flattering than you think. It doesn’t cling to lumps and bumps like fabric does – rubber smooths everything out in a gorgeously shiny way. It may not be the best thing to wear in hot summer weather, but it’s definitely worth having in your wardrobe for when the weather cools down a bit. Don’t forget something to help you slip it on, and some shine spray for that lovely glossy finish. Hmm… I think I may have to give latex clothing a post all of its own at some point!

What do people think of next? Perhaps an image of Bettie Page, bound and gagged. If that’s your thing, rope is a rather useful sex toy, but don’t forget that leather wrist cuffs are great for a quick restraint option that requires no skill or practice. You can even get wrist restraints that can be worn as a bracelet when not in use! For something quick and easy that can be used for restraint and even for creating an outfit, there’s also bondage tape. That’s definitely a fun way to get started when you and your partner are not yet sure whether it’s your thing. As for gags, well, there are some pretty hardcore options out there, but you don’t have to have a gigantic fetish for being gagged to appreciate the benefits of the Bondage Boutique Leather Mouth Gag. If you really need to keep the noise down sometimes, it could be the ideal solution.

Of course, it’s not all leather and latex. Some people have a fetish for schoolboy/girl role play (you might want a cane for that), others have a medical fetish (Lovehoney have a whole section devoted to medical play), and some just wanted to be owned and collared. Whatever your favourite form of play is, there will be kit out there to help you make your fantasies a reality. This is just the tip of a very large iceberg indeed.
